    1940 magneto

    could someone please tell me the correct mag for a 1940 4 cylinder indian ?? thanks chris

    '40 saw the first year of the RM type (rotating magnet). These are the big squarish looking ones, with a bakalite cap for the wires on one end, and another forming a cover on the other end. Sorry, I don't have the actual number, or syle handy for you.

      Hi Chris,

      Magneto for 1939 and up 4 cyl is Edison Splitdorf model RM-4, left hand rotation, spec # 03130, there may be a "P" on the end of the number.
      This is from Edison Splitdorf literature.

      I make all the plastic parts for these 2 & 4 cyl. models.

          thanks fred and bruce...........i have a dist. set up on my 40-4 now but it has an m stamp.....if anyone has the reverse and would like to swap please let me know.....also anyone who has a mag forsale i would be intrested...thanks chris
