  • Cycle-Ray Headlight

Good afternoon people. I sort of got a belated Christmas present today. I’m trying to finish some Cycle-Ray headlights (Part of my on going clean up the mess thing). I was just about to put this bezel in the sand blaster when I noticed some sparkling on an edge. I said to my self this can’t be. I took some lacquer thinner on a rag and started to wipe off the olive drab paint (the bezel is nos military). In the picture you see 65 year plus chrome as new as the day it was platted. The only thing I can come up with was doing the war the demand was there and they where taking anything they had and painting olive drab and sending it out the door. Going to soak it in thinner over night and get the rest of the paint off. Got one question for ya. One of the military shells I have has brass rivets. I’ve never seen this. All the others I have here have parkerized steel rivets. Were any of these rivets painted other than military? I put Ted’s cd in and looked at the light they reproduce under license to GM in the OneDumbChin Provence and it has cad rivets or what ever there passing as cad. Anybody? Thanks, Bob L

I remember seeing many army surplus headlight bezels and shift levers for sale back when they were plentiful that had a scrape in the OD paint where the seller checked to see if there was chrome underneath.

Easy there Tom, I use plastic media. It’s made up of the stuff that falls out of the shipping container on the way to the Onedumbchin Province. It doesn’t hurt steel. The other great thing about this stuff is that it makes no dust, none. You can actually see what you’re blasting. Now answer the question.
