Today I tried using a set of dial calipers on the outside of the points to set the gap. It works great!

And then there's the 'ol lead pencil trick, works best on sixes and eights- and it WILL keep your buddy from driving home drunk. One of our old buds laughed when we gave the bartender his coil wire, just snuck out and pulled a plug wire and stuck it in the coil and drove his Ranger home on 5 cylinders- except he hit a parked car on the way
The next time I got him with the pencil, and fixed it for him later- he never did figure out what I did to it

You could just pull up the distributor cover and steal his rotor!
Had a friend, an old time rider, who loved to play jokes on other riders, who told me about the time he took a friend's, a pretty "unmechanical" friend's headlight apart in the parking lot while he was in a bar, and painted his headlight bulb with Mercurochrome!
When his friend came out, started the bike up, and switched on his headlight, he convinced him that he'd seen that before, and it was the result of someone taking off his three battery caps and pouring Mercurochrome into his battery! Boy, was that guy P.O.'d !

Oh, and .022" points gap? Two thicknesses of ordinary business card.
