I want to disassebly the generator from my '52 Chief so I can check the rotor with a growler. I have the pulley off and took the two long bolts out. How do the end pieces come off? I have got them loose, but can't get them off. Are they just stuck, or are the bearings holding them on?

The armature is a light press fit on the bearings. Put a nut on the end of the armature and whack the nut with a dead blow hammer or a piece of wood a few times (make sure the end casting is snug against the body or you'll damage the pin or the casting). This should drive the armature from the drive end bearing (the odd time it's frozen so don't go nuts). The commutator end of the armature has a washer and screw locking it to the bearing on that end. You need to take off the little triangular cover to access the screw ... Perry

Yes, Perry, I got it apart and the armature checked out fine on the growler. I just ordered bearings and misc parts for the rebuild.
