the accel capacitors are rated at 40 volts & 5100mfd I use two 50 volt 10,000 mfd on mine. I got mine from a surround sound I stripped for parts but if you go to a good electronic store (or jameco.com) you can buy them for way less when you know what values you need. the higher the microfarad value the more current they store. if you find some used ones they can be tested with a analog volt meter (a trick bruce taught me at ami in 78) so I still have my old analog vm. If you find a long skinny one it can hide in the top frame tube under the seat. this info is only for battery eliminators as capacitors for your points must be exact values or you risk burning points. hope this gets you on your way. one last note the factory service manual lists a capacitor for the ch models however they use it connected to the 61 terminal of the regulater. they do not show where it is located but by using it there it could be smaller and by the regulater.

Thanks so much for the CH Capacitor values. I remember that the capacitor that came with my '64 was about 1-1/2" long asbout 3/4" in diameter and had a single black wire. I did not know the value, but the 20,000 microfarad value is a great help. The voltage rating of 40 or 50 Volts in far more than any surge voltage produced by the Model 61 generator running at 6 volts.

I also seem to remember that it was bolted to the webbed area of the rear frame casting beneath on the left side near the seat, above the oil tank, just in front of the rear down-tubes. But it was MANY years ago and I'm not certain about that. I want to locate it where it came form the factory, so if anyone is positive about this, please let me know. If not, I can write the Factory - they usually respond.

I will start searching the web for aluminum-encased paper or dielectric capacitors (I dont know what type H-D used) that look similar to the one that I seem to remember. There used to have special meters for checking capacitance - I would be interested in how you check the rating with the Simpson VOM as I don;t remember a capacitance scale on the Fluke or Simpson - please do tell !!

search a electronic store as they should be less than 5 dollars there last year a buddy in ill got one from a tv shop for 2.99 I would not spend 50.00 on one, thats crazy If you go to the homepage that chris said to buy it from they have a small note that says they do NOT ship to the USA what gives with that???

I've used NOSPARTS before and they are good people. Unfortunately, at your suggestion I checked their listing and they don't list the part number that I need. I guess it will take some searching, as not many old-style capacitors are made anymore. But - I did find and purchase a number of original old stock XLCH headkight switches after hours of searching, so anything is possible.
