  • Looking for small Gel battery with lotsa amps

I have heard that gel batteries put out more cold cranking amps. The time is here to start modifying my Knuck oil bag to make room for the 12 volt starter motor. I will also have to modify the tank to accept a new and different shape battery. Of course I am looking to get the most amps I can get from the smallest battery possible. Any ideas/thoughts?
I had wanted to use the electric starter kit from Jed's but I have been waiting four years for him to get off his butt and get them in production. http://jedscycleproducts.com/starter.htm

I think I responded to another members question on this. I have had experience with two gel batteries, both purchased on ebay. One from a local Jacksonville, FL wholesaler, and one from a guy that goes by "thegreatrandolpho". The Jacksonville battery was a piece of crap, that made the bike harder to kick over even on a warm day. I got the great randolpho's battery, and it was an immediately noticeable difference as the bike kicked over on a couple of kicks, even if I had let it sit two weeks without the battery tender (as I did once by mistake). Lights are strong. He offers both a 6V and 12V on ebay, and has good customer service and the price is right ($59 for a 12V, and $69 or a 6V). I believe he advertises 7 amps on the 12V, and 18 amps on the 6V. I have now had his 12V for about a year, with NO degradation in performance.

Chris, Try Great Plains Cycle Supply in Lincoln, NE (thegreatrandolpho's business) at:
        (402) 467-4126
        2542 N 27th Street,
        Lincoln, NE 68521

He also sells a very nice "puddin' style" retro helmet (like the Davida's) but DOT approved. I've got one and love it, and feel safer.
