  • Ammeter Question from 2005

Indian Ammeter 1941-1946 A.jpg Lux originally posted a question about Indian ammeters in 2019.
Sorry about the thread title, I must have looked at someone's join date.
    Anyway, here's the issue.

I have recently run into the same problem of identifying a genuine Hoyt ammeter that is not riveted.
Have any of you in the original thread been able to confirm if there were two versions? Anyone hates to learn that when they pay for original and it turns out to be reproduction.
Here are photos of a reference from Kevin Flanagan's Indianguage.com (the riveted face with blue background) as mentioned by exeric in his original post. Then I have posted my recent find from Colorado.
I would like to know what the forum thinks--is mine original?
Here are some measurements; face diameter = 2 8/16", front diameter = 2 2/16" edge to edge, back stud diameter = 1" exact, back diameter = 2" exact.

    Screwed face is 41-46
yours has short needle but looks original
    pics of earlier 20-0-20
bottom in the three pic with bezel the graphics and needle are silver, the others are white.
Note rivets and script are not in same locations.
not sure of year differences ,but think 35-37 for upper script and 39-40for low script.

Thank you, Tom. I don't know much about ammeters.
I have the Hatfield and everything looked consistent, though you know how some things went undocumented with company history.
Most of the photos are black and white so I never noticed the difference in print color on the faces.
When Robin Markey told me there were three versions, it didn't really sink in for some reason.
I have never seen all three of them together either.
      Much appreciated.

In a previous discussion on this forum a member cleared up some confusion on my part by pointing out that Hatfields guide ,ammeter pics pg 188 ,figures 283 should have the pic from fig.285,
And 285 should have 283 pic.

          JR,

I think I mentioned this to you before, if this is for your 741 project the correct ammeter would be a Hoyt meter, but would not say Indian on it. I had a correct one years ago but sold it after I sold my 741.

            Joe,
I thought that since it is not going to be a military restoration, this would be good for a civilian 741. I saw the photo Kevin Flanagan posted on Indianguage.com for that military non-script ammeter. The next dilemma would be fender choice. I know I'm going to get 741 military fenders, though I might change my mind and use late 1930s fenders instead.
