1937 UL tail light bulb

I am in need of a 12 volt dual filiment buld the bulb base is I believe a BA15D this bulb has both tips at the same level not offset like the 1157 bulb we are used to if anyone knows where I can purchase this bulb thanks if you can help

If I’m not mistaken that bulb was only available in 6v and I’d be surprised if there’s enough demand for a manufacturer to make a 12v version.

Is it possible that I have been using a 6volt bulb with a 12 volt battery the tail light has been working fine for 3 years i just lost the tail light brake light still works fine. Where can i purchase a 6 volt bulb might work for another 3 years and is a LED bulb a option what are your thoughts and thanks for helping

There are other vendors of LEDs,but these people provide a lot of information about them. They also cross it to an 1142 bulb, but I didn't dig to see if that's also dual filament.

File off the the nub on the 1157 that's NOT at the right height then figure out which way to insert it to get the brake (super bright) and tail (bright) light filaments to light up appropriately. It can only go in two ways so your odds of getting it right the first time are pretty good... LOL!

At most antitique car parts suppliers they stock the converstion bulbs you need.

I would think if your bulb was 6v it would blow almost immediately with 12v so maybe they are available.

The bulb you need is an 1176. I have a General Electric bulb catalog that has the specifications and measurements for hundreds of automotive type bulbs. I compared this bulb with an 1157 and everything is the same except it has inline pins instead of offset (also called indexing pins). Looked through my bulbs and found an 1176. I insalled it in a 36 to 38 tail light and It worked fine. As far as availability, I found them on Amazon, $7.45 for two, Phillips brand. Also on Ebay, $8.59 for a box of ten, Westinghouse brand, Ebay number 144054798052.
The method of filing the upper pin off of an 1157 mentioned earlier works fine. An alternate for the 1157 is the 1034. Supposedly it is a heavier duty bulb. Hope this helps.

I took a 1157 bulb and filed off the nipple at the wrong location and installed it and it works great I also ordered a LED bulb hoping it will produce a brighter light Thanks for all the help
