  • what is this?

I bought a 46 FL.It is together but none of the wiring is connected. The pictures show the generator and voltage regulator. The wires from the regulator are black. No ID as to where they connect. Is this a generator or alternator? There are no markings on it. The previous owner told me the bike had been converted to 12 volts. It does have a 12 volt battery. Any help with wiring would be appreciated. Thanks Scott

I can't help you but post a picture of the regulator plug. That is how they get identified.

regulator 3.JPGThere is no plug, only about eight inches of wire. All three wires are black, no labels.

Mini-alternator set up to resemble a three brush generator, and a solid state regulator to go with it. Don't know who made it.

Thanks for the replies. I would like to use it if I can find out how to wire it.

On an alternator bike, two of the black wires go to the stator and one goes to the battery positive. I don't have my bike handy, but someone in the shovelhead section should be able to tell you what in order they come out of the regulator. It doesn't matter which way the stator wires are hooked up, it's AC at that point.

It's hard to say with the aftermarket manufacturers but...
the Center black wire of the 3 would typically be your DC charge wire that connects to your B+ post at the battery.
The other two wires would both be ACV wires for a full wave system.
