I was at a swap meet today and there were several unopened boxes (and you were not allowed to open to see) that were WW2 year orange and black HD boxes marked US Gov't surplus and said either points or breaker points, I can't remember, but the part # was HRD 1569-42. I called a friend and he said the # for early points, and I see now in my parts book, is 1569-30A or 30 depending on a set or just the points. I did not buy any and take the chance, so can anyone tell me what HRD 1569-42 part is. Thank you.

Most -42 part numbers are XA however XAs used standard -30A points, plus virtually all XA specific part numbers are 5 digit prefix. That number isn't in the XA catalog. And H-D doesn't normally use the prefix number on a different item so it likely is points for something, but not XA, WLA, UA, ELC, or any of the other normal timers.Robbie Knight Amca #2736

The standard points set is the 1569-30A, the 1569-42 is a kit with the 1569-30A points set and the 1574-30 spring.
WLA parts book.
1569-30A Points set consists of 1569-30 plate, contact with point and 1573-30 lever, breaker.
1569-42 Kit, circuit breaker point. consists of 1569-30A points set and 1574-30 Spring circuit breaker lever.
so the 1569-30A is just the points and the 1569-42 is the points set with spring.
