does anyone know the difference between the 32e and the 52 harley generators, to look at them they seem the same except the data tag? thanks chris

I'm sure Perry Ruiter can explain it better but as I see it, the brushes on the 32 are narrow and fat and on the 52 they are wide and thin. The field coils are also different, but unfortunately I can't tell you what this does. There might be something else but I'll leave the rest to the experts.

Bruce pretty much covers it. The 52 is very similar to the 32E. Larger main brushes. Larger field coils (both field coils are the same unlike in the 32E where they are different) and also larger pole shoes. Other than that pretty much the same as a 32E. Later model 52s (54/55?-57) did not have a data tag, but rather had the "tag" stamped directly into the body ... PerryComment
