  • 6V cutout switch

Is this a voltage regulator or just a solid state cutout switch?IMG_1693.jpg

It is an electronic cut out.

Thanks Chris, I thought so but was not sure.

They come in six or twelve volt FYI.

When using the 6v solid state cut out relay, my generator light would not go out. I later read (Bruce Palmer) not to use the lamp terminal on the solid state relay as it is only a grounded dummy.
What is normally done about the generator lamp when using this type of relay?

The instructions that came with mine addressed that problem and did say to not run that one wire as normal but I can't remember what I did or it said to make the light work. Me and my friend Dave both use the electronic relay only in 12 volt on an early Knuck and early Pan and our lights work. Can't remember how we got there though. I run a 65A generator and Dave runs a 50 something. When I get the time I'll look and see if I wrote it down in my wiring notes.

              Howdy chaps,

With all the modern battery possibilities for which a electro mechanical/electronic cutout is inadequate for open road use, in another 20 minutes one can convert their generator to 2 brushes (no parts needed) and an electronic regulator, maybe fit an electronic ignition and be totally done with it. Generator light and everything as normal in pix below. Batteries and attendant improvements toggled to on other pages.
