  • 1949 Harley "45" Generator / Regulator

    I have a civilian model 1949 Harley "45".
It has a 12 volt Generator and a Volkswagen style Regulator.

I would like to confirm that it is a "45" Generator versus a Sportster Generator.
Anyone know how to identify one from the other?
Maybe it can ONLY be a '45", since it fits my bike?

Seems that since I added the factory style Spotlights....
When I turn the Spotlights on; the bike idle drops and the bike dies.

    Thanks!

There is no difference between any 12V generator for Sportster, Big Twin or 45 other than the drive gear. Any will fit and work the same on any bike. If you have a mini battery the spotlights likely draw too much for it to keep up with, and the generator isn't able to compensate due to the way it charges (regulator settings, cut-out setting, engine RPM).
