morn n, may not be the combo your looking for, i use the original running light and added on a separate circuit off the battery for the fuse,brake light switch and a 2 bulb led for the brake light. so it could be remove without interfering or splicing into the stock harness.
found 6 volt system would only light the two bulb led, also eliminated the 3rd. brush using a voltage regulator by Gene Harper and a Shoria battery.

I used two LED replacements for the stock "brake and tail light" on my sidecar rig on a 3000 mile round trip. I took a couple of conventional incandescent bulbs with me for spares.

Good thing I did. The LED bulb in the bike's rear fender taillight lasted about a thousand miles, and I presume it was as a result of the vibration, burned black inside, blinked on and off going down the road for about another hundred miles, and finally burned out completely. The identical sidecar taillight bulb lasted about 2000 miles before doing the same. I think there's just too much vibration and "shock" for LEDs at their present level of development, to last, going down the road at speed on a rigid-frame motorcycle. My 2¢ worth.

Mahalo! Which LED did you purchase? I'm looking for one for my '30 Indian with a very similar housing design to yours, so 'elbow room' is important.

Tried an LED on my 39, even though not in the event, from my experience the bulb would not work properly, was much dimmer than OEM spec. Then when applying the brake, the bulb would light up about the same as the stock lamp, but would not go dim once the brake pedal was released.

Sorry I din't get back to you sooner, Chas. Sandy roared past the Florida coast far out to sea; all we got were about three cloudy, windy days. All our hearts went out to the poor folks on the Jersey and Long Island shores who bore the brunt of Sandy's fury, some of whom are still without power two weeks after the event! So sorry, guys and girls!

I don't have any info on the brand name of the LED taillight bulbs I purchased. They were labelled as drop-in replacements for incandescent 1157 tail & stoplight bulbs, and I took um for their words. I just tore open the wrappers and plugged them in the Harley taillights (1934-38 style "Hognose" fixtures) They were just too fragile for the supplication, and I went back to incandescent light bulbs and have had no problems since, now, almost a year. Hope this helps you!
