anybody here know who rebuilds 1926 JD coils, I have heard that there might be someone out there?

I had my 28 J model coil rebuilt at Harbor Vintage in Jonesville VT

Rat (at Harbor Vintage) does them. You can do them yourself. Just get a six volt coil and insert in casing. Almost that easy. When I got my JD, the coil was completely wrong/gone. I ended up making even the 'bakelite' casing from paper layered with fiberglass resin over a mold. It's almost indistinguishable from an original and has a nice hot spark.

Steve, For a few guys in our Chapter who run an 12V alternator in the primary cover so the generator is gutted except for the gears to run the timer I've made a slightly larger cover that looks like the original coil cover and housed a regular m/c round 12V coil in it with the two plug wires coming out like the originals. You could still use the original 6V generator and timer with a 6V round M/C coil in it. These guys were Cannonballers and now others are trying it. Reliability is the issue not the originality. Not the answer you need but another way to skin the cat.
