Correct category, probably not. I had a visit from an out-of-state motorcycle friend who was visiting family here in Sarasota yesterday. As we were talking, it occurred to me that I don't have any motorcycle friends here in Sarasota. So, I thought, why not put that on the AMCA forum and see if anyone in Sarasota is an ANTIQUE motorcycle nut (and not just a nut. Most everyone I know that likes old bikes lives in another State, or at last 150 miles away so the phone is my only direct contact with like-minded people, and the AMCA Forum is my daily touchstone to my motorcycle addiction. There are many weird, and possibly funny things I could say about this; but I'm not lonely, I am married, and I could just get a puppy, but it would be nice to have a motorcycle friend in the area. Just throwing this out there.

I understand Eric! I'm in the process of moving to central Iowa and I'm pretty sure there isn't anybody in my small town that is in the AMCA. Makes for a bit of a lonely hobby....

I'm a snowbird from CT with a winter home in Sarasota. I have a 98 Dyna there, chosen because it can sit on a tender for 9-10 months and start right up when I get there. A few of my bikes qualify for AMCA, including my 99 point 82 FXR, but nothing as old as yours. There is a guy in Bradenton named Willie Herschberger who owns a shop that builds pans and older Harleys. He introduced me to the Gulf Coast chapter of the AMCA. I would hang with you if you want.

Understood Harper, the closest stuff to me usually happens in Portland which is a 5 hour ride away @65 MPH not achievable one ether of my Chiefs. Most of those who ride up here are on new HD's and Indians. To each their own. I like carburetors . I went to the Yankee Meet over in Massachusetts it was nice. I plan on going again. I just poke around on the 'net and when I travel, check out stuff. I'm also active in the old Chevy truck scene as well. Luckily on the Canadien side not far from me there is plenty of activity surrounding that. Indians are my first love however. Good luck Exeric. I hope you and Joe get together.

I sent Joe a PM, which is an AMCA medium I haven't had a lot of success with (but here's hoping). I have a friend in North Carolina and his passion is ancient amour like from Medieval times. Try to find a friend in North Carolina that thinks that is cool. I love our old motorcycle hobby and have to say (for our young members) that old motorcycles are a lifetime involvement that never stops giving if you get into the nitty gritty of research, connecting with people that know your bike, swap meet crawling, shop time, and acquiring the tools, and skills to make it all happen. . . Aside from family, health, and the visceral; what the hell else is there in life but old motorcycles! Thanks, Peter, and Gene for reinforcing what I already know and love about ancient motorcycles.

            Eric,

I just checked my 2020 AMCA roster and there are three members listed in Sarasota. If you have that roster or an earlier one, you can check those too. The directory may also list members living near Sarasota. I hope this helps.

              Eric,

You can also go to the AMCA website and click on Membership Directory under the Features heading. Then insert Florida in the state search bar and all AMCA members in Florida will appear. A bit cumbersome to search all but you may have members closer to you than you know now. Good luck.

Richard, could someone code in a link within the forum that directs to the AMCA website?
