    R.L. Jones

I was thinking about R.L. Jones last week because I came across a part I had got from him years ago. I sold him some Excelsior racing stuff that I had no use for, and I was glad he got it because I knew he loved Ex racing parts. One of the items was a 'teens' vintage racing handlebar that was the genuine article and even had very nice (unique) old grips. That was at the one and only Orlando Shriner Hall meet in the late '90s. I saw him the next day after the sale, and he said he was so happy with the handlebar that he slept with them at the hotel. I have not seen or heard anything about R.L. in years. My memories are of a fine Southern gentleman and a person that made time to talk to anyone that shared his passion for old motorcycles. I confess that I posted this because I heard a rumor that R.L. has died. I pray that isn't so, but if it is, I would like to pay my respects to his family, and loving friends. If it's not true, I will have another drink to his good health. . . . Or, to cover the bases and drink to his memory.

I hope this isn't regarded as disrespectful; but we all reach a point in life where mortality is both within vision, and of course, inevitable.

Yes, R.L has passed. He and I spoke often when I was more involved with vintage racing but not for a long time over the last few years. He loved race bikes for sure! RIP RL, twist that wick!

Never met R.L., but his name was dropped with respect many times over the years. **God Speed R.L. Jones.
