  • New Member - Harley FLH Shovelhead

Hi guys, 67 year old pilot from western PA, new to the AMCA, but not new to Harleys. Been riding for a long time, owned many Harleys over the years...probably have over 300,000 miles on the road. Owned a 1973 FLH I rebuilt back in the early 2000's.....but just picked up a 1972 FLH locally, from son of original owner who passed away. Has 26,000 miles on it, and I am doing a complete restoration of the bike, removing ALL aftermarket parts he in installed, and returned it to its original 1972 glory....using as many Harley parts as I can find, and keeping it stock. I have modded many bikes and cars....this one, I want just like Harley built it on the showroom floor, and will ride it till I did. I will plan to post a build thread on the bike....but just wanting to start with saying Hi. Going to join the local AMCA chapter.....met a few of them, good bunch of guys so far.

The other bike I have right now is my 2004 Road King I bought brand new......just passed 140,000 miles on it this summer. Its a great bike....but its no Shovelhead.

Bikes from the past include, in order of purchase:

1974 Kawasaki LTD - first bike bought in early 80's...used for $300
1998 Harley Sportster Sport 1200 - bought brand new Richmond Indiana, kept it four months and sold it to buy...
    1998 FLSTF Fatboy bought new
1973 FLH - former Detroit police bike....bought for $2500, total junk - restored it to better than new
1996 Harley Sportster 883 - bought in LA, kept at my sisters house in Phoenix
2004 Road King bought new - still have it, always will,...currently 140,000 miles
2001 Honda Goldwing - black....great cruiser, but no character - thought I would love it...didn't
2004 FLHTC Electraglide to replace Goldwing as a bike for the wife and I
2001 Honda Goldwing - black....second one,....rode for awhile with Wife #2...bored with it and sold it
1976 Harley XLH - Ironhead......got half rebuilt, and sold it to buy a car project.
1972 Harley FLH Electraglide - currently starting total restoration back to original....will keep till I did....the greatest motorcycle ever made, a Shovelhead FLH.

Howdy Jeff, greetings from the Forum. Nice selection of past motorcycles. I cut my teeth on those seventies FLH's. Good Luck with the transformation to better than new.

        Welcome JM!

Shovelhead IMO is one of the strongest engines HD made.
Sounds like you have found your local Chapter
        A good winter for wrenching.
