Hello all,
My uncle owned 2.X Indian Scouts. 2 were complete and running until the day he parked them at some point in the ‘60s or ‘70s. My brother-in-law took them. I, being an idiot, wanted a bigger challenge and took the .X bike, which is an incomplete hybrid of a ‘49 Scout frame and ‘50 Warrior engine (for those keeping score at home, the frame VIN is 2495420 and engine is BEJ1971-T).
I am not going to try and “make it right” (i.e. a Scout or Warrior restoration). I’m going to honor the bike as is and wave the hybrid flag with pride. That said there’s a long path between now and a working bike. I have already stripped the engine, tranny, and forks - engine: cylinders needed to be rebored then piston rings replaced; tranny looked good but I don’t actually know what a good tranny looks like so… Best I can say is that I “think” I put the tranny back together correctly.
I’ll cut this short, I’d hate to have anybody fall asleep on my first post. Next 2 pieces are simple - custom plates to add a voltage regulator and fit a modern battery to the original mount. After that, well, I’ll be posting for advice. (NOTE: pic doesn’t show gas or oil tanks, headlight or horn. I have those bits but have not tested. I also have the parts for both wheels but parts do not wheels make).
Best,
Oscar
