    How do you do....

    Hi All

just joined in July and looking forward to 'meeting' you all. Harley rider since 1976 and now rebuilding old Sportsters to keep me out of trouble.

I hope to benefit from the combined wisdom of so many riders who know more than I ever will!

    Best wishes

Welcome Colin! There are many great folks on the forum, eager to help with a question, share knowledge or dig through their extensive literature to shed light on an obscure topic or motorcycle.

                Hi Paul

thanks for the welcome - not sure how many members I'll encounter here in the Highlands but I can travel!

Here a pic of my latest acquisition - a very original 1969 XLCH. Whether to keep it original as is, or restore over time.....

Yes, a great site. I use it a lot as that level of knowledge is hard to come by around here!

Nice I like the magneto. I am planning on running one on my 741 when I get that far.

                          Welcome!

A few of us like sportsters around here.

I have a problem with building "slow" sportsters:

A while ago, Mrs. Chuck started hinting she wanted her own motorbike. At roughly the same time a '67 XLH appeared on fleabay. I lost the auction; but the original "winner" didn't pay up. I wound up with rolling pile of parts with a clean '67 title and parts spanning 1967-1976. So, let's build a girls bike. First

A huge chunk of the Old K Model and Sportster Research Group, which is behind that Harley K model site, will be gathered at Davenport in just a few weeks. Lunch is at noon on Friday at the Raino Brother's spot -- come on by and meet some of the folks behind the site in person. Just don't be surprised if you get sucked into a discussion about ANY obscure part of a sporty.

I believe there will be at least one KHK and likely my 59XLH on the upcoming Detroit Lakes run . . . though I'll likely take my Trident too.

                            Hi Chuck

it's great to meet other Sportster fanatics - there are a few over here, too. 'Here' is Scotland on the other side of the pond, though, so I'll miss out on a lot of events and the pleasure of meeting many of you. But I hope I'll be an active participant in the forums - look forward to it.

                            Love the bikes, BTW!

Ha -- there does seem a large contingent of ironhead fans in the UK! I'm over at least once a year -- so if I'm rolling north of Shropshire I'll drop you a line to see if we will wind up within 50 miles of one another.

In the meantime; do consider a run to the states for one of the big meets like Wauseon or Davenport. It is highly likely 2027 will see the sportster celebrated at several meets being the 70th anniversary of the model. Generally, someone will adopt you meaning if you can cover airfare - someone will put you up and feed you -- maybe even loan you a bike to ride around on.

The AMCA can be interestingly magical like that -- and us silly sporty people seem to take well care of our own.
