More accurately I have cracks in both frames at the transmission casting. Having difficulty finding a competent welder in both cases.

          Hmmm;
Looks like the nearest local chapter would be in Buffalo (assuming no border issues):

          #83 Riveter Chapter
          55 BANNER AVE
          LANCASTER, NY , NY 14086

They may know a more local competent welder. And don't hesitate to post pictures of your parts and frames we like those too.

Welcome to the forum. An interesting pair you have. The repair shouldn't be too difficult although many welders shy away from those brazed frames. Pictures of the cracks can help with recommendations.

Hi from Vancouver Island. Have you tried Adam King at Black Horse Cycle? Seems to have a good reputation. You can find him on various internet places, looks like Facebook and Instagram. Cheers!

                Welcome, Montij!

A 'speltered', 'oven-brazed', or silver-soldered frame cannot be welded near the joints without damage. So you need a "welder" that knows how to use a torch, at least.

Sometimes an amateur does better than a pro. (And always cheaper.)

Can't wait to see your carbs....

Got the peashooter frame repaired tonight
the last photo is of the VL frame. The welder wants to put those plates in. I think I’m going to get it back and have it welded by the same man who did my frame tonight the other guy has had the vl frame for 8 months!

                          Your carb looks remarkable Monti!

Did you find any evidence of a support like this?

                          GX1 with support.jpg
(Please understand that I have no clue about anything but what I have held in my hand....)

Please start a new thread when you get into it, and I'm looking forward to it!

PS: The early potmetal bowls for your '30 are not that rare, but the rest of the carb is.

                            Hi and welcome Montij,

John at Motorcycle Enhancements (Oakville) did an amazing job restoring my 1950 frame. He very much kept in mind the “look” of original welds and I was extremely happy with the results. Jason Parker could also do this work. There’s a couple of guys local to you.
