    Hello!

I just joined the AMCA and the forum. I am an expatriat Brit, I have been living in the USA for a while now - 13 years or so. When I moved over, I brought my 1960 Matchless G12 restoration project with me. Well, I haven't done much to it in the last 13 years, but I have finally set myself up with a workshop, and am now starting to inventory and obtain parts, and want to get going on the project.

So - I have signed up so that I can draw on the knowledge of the club, in my quest for suppliers of parts and services to help me get this done.

Great to be here, many thanks!

    Oh no, not again!

Welcome, Propf! We're glad to have you here. Glad you weren't put off by the "of America." It's neither all American members nor exclusively American bikes. Years ago, until the '70s, it was just about exclusively referred to as "The A.M.C." then some younger members started tacking the more formal-sounding "of America" on it (I confess, I was one!).

Your Matchless sounds like a project just waiting to be finished. Post some "before" pics now, for outstanding contrast to the "after" photos you'll take when it's finished. We love pictures!

Thanks for the welcome, much appreciated. I can give you a couple of pictures to start with:

This is the bike as I bought it, way back in 1996

I purchased it from someone in the English town of Derby. He had been riding it until the early seventies (had painted it orange and gold in the late sixties), when he attached a sidecar for family use, but then crashed it, bending the forks. the bike then sat under a tarp until I found out about it in 1996, and I brought it stateside with my in 1998, in parts.

I've been acquiring a few parts for it, but now it's time to kick off the restoration in earnest.

Most likely this year will be spent in preparation, getting the frame painted, parts chromed and polished etc, so that I can begin assembly next winter.

I'll start a thread in the Matchless area of the forum and post progress reports!

And don't travel all the way to Earnest to start your restoration! Go 'head and do it in your own garage! (I have never understood why people always go to Earnest to start their new undertakings!) Do they have a secret stash of antique motorcycle parts in warehouses there? Where is Earnest, anyway?
