  • Indian Distributor Parts

I just ordered a new rotor and cap for my 1948 Indian Chief through the Brillman Company (https://brillman.com/). The company has been mentioned in past posts, but I think it's worth mentioning again. The prices are comparable to what you can get from most suppliers (Kurly's & Kiwi), but I wanted the black and they don't offer it. It's $10 bucks cheaper for black since the brown is apparently a limited edition color. I did a search using the Auto-Lite distributor model number/code for my bike (IGW 4053) and found other parts as well.

I also located the "ELECTRIC AUTO-LITE EQUIPMENT & PARTS LISTS". It's a PDF document and can be found here: https://www.rosesclassyquilts.com/wae/Distributors4.pdf
Not sure how this ties in with Rose's Classy Quilts, but the post is legit. I downloaded a copy for future reference. I think it would be a good addition to the library, but I don't know how to add it.

If you search this document using the model number, you can locate the OEM part number for all the components. Page 83 lists all the different model numbers for Indian motorcycles.
    Pretty cool.

It’s been a few years since I had a chief but at that time NAPE Auto carried caps and rotors.

Thanks for posting that Rose's Quilts link, not a quilter but I found something I had previously thought was undocumented. A friend's Chief was missing the small vent (I thought it was a drain...maybe it's both) on the bottom of his distributor. Neither he nor I could ever find the part A)in a parts diagram, or B) a source to purchase one. But the Autolite parts list has the part listed, XA-598. Finding a source for one, however, is a whole separate search!

That's true Harry, Kiwi shows it in the diagram but does not offer it for sale. Greer doesn't even show it. Rare part but comes in handy during wash time.

Per PaulCDF's recommendation, I passed the PDF document on to the email address for the Vintage Motorcycle Library.

Harry, thanks for the heads up on the vent. I had no idea what went there. I agree it may be near impossible to find one.
