There is such a thing as proformas and international irrevocable letters of
credit with international purchases and sales which we all should be aware
of. If you intend to buy from overseas, demand both. What they do is put
your money in escrow until you have had the opportunity to inspect the item
and sign off as received as offered. A good broker can save you a lot of
money and a lot of disappointment.
There is also a similar method for within the same country transactions. It
will vary by country.
