  • Cadmium Plating

Any recommendations for vendors who will take care with old bike parts, in this case 1934, for Cadmium plating?

My guess is they would price by the pound. What kind of prep should I do?

If I blast everything there will be flash rust by the time it gets there.

I have a pile of stuff I was saving up to get plated and with this tranny rebuild I'm finally ready to take the plunge.
I don't mean to brag but; I put together a puzzle in only a week when the box clearly said "2-4 years".

I've used these guys for my last couple of go rounds:
      http://coloradoplating.com/

That said, I haven't had a batch done in 18 months and a few people have said they didn't have a good experience.

My last batch was a bit over 25 pounds of fasteners and misc parts. I did media blast everything with black diamond coal slag. I wrapped all the parts immediately in toweling and sealed them in plastic. When they are run through the degreaser all the junk comes off --- and only a few parts needed reblasting by the plater.

Total cost was $200 with shipping and an FAA certification for the plating and the post plating baking. I had a set done for a bike 5 years ago that has been continuously on the road. The plating looks as good as day one -- and I rarely wash or polish that bike. It just gets ridden, ridden some more, and beaten up for fun. I also have bins of spare hardware they did for me -- no tarnish after several years in open bins in my rather humid shop.

There's another place in Elk Grove Village that has gotten several very good reviews. It's called 3Js -- they are supposed to be higher quality and cheaper. I haven't had a chance to try them -- so take it as you will.

Thank you man, exactly what I was looking for; a recommendation of a vendor that you had a good experience with. I had googled before posting and the first place I called (when they finally answered) I got an ESL (English second language guy) that when he found out I wanted to cad plate old motorcycle parts wanted me to call back tomorrow when the boss was there. Ty chuck!
