  • Perry Ruiter Problem update.

Back in December 2015 and August 2016 I submitted posts asking if anyone had recently had any dealings with Perry Ruiter. We were supposed to be exchanging parts, and I had sent him a few thousand dollars worth of parts but did not receive anything from him. After a few emails from him he went completely silent, and I did not get any response to my emails.

The response from AMCA members was mostly very supportive, and I am very grateful to everyone who took the time to write with advice and support.

Perry Ruiter continued to ignore my emails for a few years, and made no attempt to either return my parts or send his part. I live in the UK so the opportunity to see Perry on the Cannonball or Oley was impossible for me. Then earlier this year an AMCA member living on the North American continent decided to step in and help. The person contacted Perry and asked him in very plain language to immediately send me what he owed me. He also told Perry that he would catch up with him at one of the annual events they both attend, and would discuss the matter further if it did not get resolved.

Following this direct intervention Perry mailed the part in just over one week. It is perfectly plain to see that without the intervention of the AMCA member Perry would have continued to ignore me. Perry did have a few people mention that he was very busy, and he was honest, and I needed to have patience. But there is no getting away from the fact that his behaviour with me was dishonest.

Finally, one suggestion put forward for his behaviour was that he had some serious personal problems, his marriage was falling apart. But that did not prevent him from making guest appearances on YouTube videos, and taking a full active part in the Cannonball Run, etc. So I don't think mailing a parcel was too much to expect.

Well, you got your problem resolved, but perhaps you should have left it at that.

You got what you wanted, so why come on here and tell some long soap opera story and bad mouth a fellow member. There are always 2 sides to a story, but that is between you and Perry. The rest of us (I'll just speak for myself) don't give a ****.

if you have to ask, there's probably no amount of explaining that could help you understand. Not knowing ALL DETAILS to both sides of the story, MAYBE what Perry did was not above board or even wrong, so a recitation of your version of the events, after the situation is resolved helps no one. reporting you got your parts back after what sounds like a long wait is one thing, but the pejorative manner in which you shared return of your parts is another.

I understand perfectly well Steve, thank you. So where were you when poor old Lance was called "slippery" and a "crook". It was nearly 3 long years of trying to get Ruiter to even respond to an email, let alone send me my property. It was only when there was the possibility that someone would speak with him face to face on my behalf that Ruiter "lost his bottle" (as they say in England) and he mailed the property very speedily. Yes, a person of integrity, honesty, and honour there, just the type of person that any organisation would be proud to count among their number.

When you say "the rest of us don't give a f--k", fortunately for me someone did give a f--k and went out of his way to get the matter resolved in a matter of days.

my sympathy is with RobG, but my point is, this type of thing does no one any good. it was handled, done and over with. i would have helped out in a situation like RobG's. i deliberately do not get involved with this sort of "discussion," but i succumbed. again - this type of thing does no one any good. i'm done. Roger that, over, and out.

Infamy, infamy, they've got it in for me!
Perry Ruiter is "a face" in the vintage bike scene over there. He has been doing restoration work for some years, takes part in the Cannonball Runs, and makes guest appearances on YouTube videos. He has his fans and admirers, I know all of that. So I was expecting one or two people to not be very pleased with the matter being aired.

Good morning. I just read this string, while browsing. I know it is a dead subject, but feel compelled to tell of my interactions with Perry. I read something he had put out while I was working on an old generator. I wanted to convert that generator from a 3 brush to 2 brush. Perry taught me how to do that, even came to my shop to help me., I very much appreciate what he taught me, and have used the information to convert other generators. I thank him for his help.
