Leather Tool Box

Does anyone know where to get the tool box fasteners,what is the proper name for them anyway?
Also, the Persons stamp.

It's a type of clasp. As for the stamp, good luck! The seat stamps are much more common. Try Heilman's. Howard made some neat stuff in the day. Now, you have to deal with his son, which is not fun. Hey, that rhymes.

just sold a good example leather tool pouch at wauseon that could have been copied and sewn back together. was not sure of maker

You do not have to take stuff apart to make patterns, and old leather cannot stand being taken apart and resewn. You just have to know what you are doing!!

They say these fasteners were used on some old army shoes. I got a couple many years ago from Heilman for my 1920:ies H-D Singles, but cannot help you with that. A buddy made the stampings for the metal ends for both the eggshaped 1926-28 and the 1929-30 tool boxes. I still have a few sets extra.

I bought Howard Heilman's seat business. I've got the clasp, stamps and the patterns to do all those old tool boxes. I can do the 1911 Indian seat as well here's a photo of one I just did

So, if I send you the steel frame for a 1926 Single 21" Harley toolbox, you can do the leather and Mesinger script stamping and put on the clamps.

Thats my seat Jethro did and I couldn't be happier, he made some fenders also and they were perfect, there is a proud dad looking down.

Hey Jethro,as I mentioned early on this tread I need to get some of the clasps.Need to make the leather boxes for bicycle,they are smaller than the motorcycle type but use the same size clasp.Would love to know where I can get some.
