Beautiful, and a labor of love, but it's not a restoration. Good as far as it goes, but it would be a historical artifact if it was complete. He built a personal interpretation of what made Phil Irving's original design so appealing. Looks like someone had the time to spend and the desire, but not enough of the factory bits to build a whole bike. I'm just prejudiced; I like true restorations, recalling the bikes as they were designed. Don't pay any attention 2me.

Over the years I've developed somewhat of a "purist" attitude. When you dive head first into the history of the old machines it's hard not to, so I get where you're coming from Sarge. I do think the bike in question is pretty awesome though. It's certainly a machine that I would stop to take a second look at.

Beautiful bike, and definitely a labor of love. I only am left wondering (as a buiness owner) what kind of shop can spend a year with, the owner, and 5 other guys spending every minute of their time working on one project, that there is no record of hours spent. So how can you set the fair value to sell or invoice to the person that contracted the build?........if there is one, and it sounds like there isn't.
I want to sign up for this new kind of fantasy business, where the bills, and payroll are magically paid while everyone works on a project for a year straight. Does anyone else see a problem with this story?

I was going to say something like that as well Tom. I don't want to take anything away from the creative, and artistic process that produced that bike, but I think many of us could do the same thing if we had the money, time, and place. I'm hoping heaven will be like that because there aren't many people on earth that can have all 3 of those vital components for their hobby.

Sorry Tom, Ya missed the .Com boom in 98-99 where you could spend all the money you wanted without being accountable to anyone. Lol
