Chapter Organizational Meeting and First Ride
The South Florida Chapter’s founding members will gather for an organizational meeting and lunch run on Saturday, January 17th in West Palm Beach, Florida. Make plans now to be there to meet each other, conduct business, and enjoy a scenic ride together. Please invite others who may want to join our chapter to be there with you.
We will assemble for a breakfast meeting at the International House of Pancakes at the Belvedere Road exit off I-95. There are hotels nearby on Belvedere Road including a Holiday Inn and a Hampton Inn for those coming long distances.
Arrive at IHOP to eat and greet by 9:00 a.m, so we can start the meeting at 9:30 to elect officers, vote on bylaws, decide on a formal name for the chapter, and conduct other business. Riders’ Briefing will commence at 10:00 a.m. Ride begins at 10:30 and proceeds on a leisurely pace down beautiful A1A, 40 miles South to Fort Lauderdale. You will enjoy vistas of breaking surf and sandy dunes on your left during the ride, with scenes of mega-yachts behind millionaires’ estates on the Intracoastal Waterway to your right.
Our lunchtime destination will be the North Ridge Raw Bar, at 969 East Commercial Blvd., in the northern part of Fort Lauderdale. This is a place recommended by Wes Scott, one of our Charter Members. After dining on fresh seafood or another local favorite, we resume the business part of the meeting to allow those who missed the start of the run to vote.
While encouraged to show off your antique bikes and classics, chapter members (including those joining that morning) are welcome to ride any brand or vintage of motorcycles in the run. (The 35-year rule applies to judging eligibility, but not to riding.)
Please reserve a spot by replying to Roy Wasson by e-mail at roywasson@bellsouth.net or by calling (305) 666-5053 by Jan. 10th. There is no charge for the ride, but bring your wallet to pay for meals and whatever annual dues we vote to impose. Also please note that the chapter has not yet been approved by the National Board, so this ride will be an unofficial activity sponsored only by the individuals in attendance, and not by the AMCA. In other words, if anything bad happens, it is not the fault or problem of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. But let's have a fun and relaxed time, so that issue never comes up.
