    What the ???????

Just when I thought most the hate and discontent had left the building. Here's my take on some of the past items mentioned in this thread, and they are only my take. Steve is gone. He really didn't serve long enough to really get his feet on the ground but I could see shades of Peter Heinz. I won't speak ill of those passed on but those who were around then know of what I speak. We didn't call him Col. Klink for nothing. Steve decided that not only should the national judging system have control over the machines entered for the regular classes but it should also have control over the chapter hosting a national meet's vanity awards and any machines for display only. That they should be registered and have to lug around a folder with their history. My chapter puts on the only National meet west of the rockies and this caused us to stop and reconsider if we cared enough to continue our commitment. We went from a regional meet of 18 years to a national for 11 yrs. so folks out west might have their machines aquire national judging status. We usually have only 25 or so bikes for judging but about 100 for display only and they bring in the spectators who buy the shirts, food, give gate donations, etc. Why after all these years did Steve need these machines to be registered and have to take control of the vanity awards we give them? On the subject of the survey. I was on the board when I was tasked to present the finds to the board. No action was ever taken on the finding that I know of and I believe they ended up in the round file. I know they (the membership was highly critical of one Peter Heinz). We're going down the same road but I hope the results turns out better this time around. Steve also wrote in his last magazine article how one Kevin Valentine single handedly brought the Period Modified class into being. I was at that board meeting and I believe another board member shared half that load but only the man out east ever gets mentioned. Not that he cares but it's just funny how history rewrites it's self. Last but not least before any one jumps ship or panics I think we need to give a little time to let our new president settle in. I've ridden on two of Richard's chapter's national road runs and have called him on more than a few items. he has always given them due considerstion and seems like he truely has the best interests of the club and the membership in the forefront. That's my take and I'm sticking to it. P.S. Not to drag it back up Kevin but I'd probally still be on the board if I had let you talk me into voting Dennis into the office of president when it was east vs. the corn field mafia from Iowa and let Peter Heinz give me my marching orders instead of gentleman Bob McClean who's job it really was. Now we're all gone and maybe the club is the worst for it.

      Well said Eric!
I wish there was more membership participation in the Forum.

Good points guys, I am with Eric - give em support if you can and time. It can be alot of grief what they all face at times, volunters all. Sorry your out Richard, the clubs loss for sure - hopefully just out of the board possition and no more, long live the AMCA.

          Rich,
Thanks for your factual information. It is good to hear the truth from the mouth of those who were there.

I agree with RichO that the hate and discontent seem to be returning. Why ? . . . . Beats me, but loudmouth opinionistas like me don't help. I really should try to stay out of this political quagmire because there is no solution. We're not all going to be made happy, and the club can't be made to fit everyone. My opinions are pointless and God knows, I'd probably argue with myself a year from now.

But, there is something I can do about it today. I'm going out to my shop and get to work on my Henderson.

Eric, believe it or not you are making sense. It's hard not to comment on these type of threads about a club you are passionate about. I used to wade up to my neck in these conversations but I'm getting better... Working on that Henderson will be great medicine!

To clear up any possible confusion, I want to make it clear that there has been no policy or procedural change regarding "display only" motorcycles in recent years, including under my direction. The chapter deputy or designated team is responsible for selecting the winners in each category of national recognition, without any intrusion from the chief judge or other program leaders. There is no preregistration or registration per se for bikes put on display, no cost, and no running requirement. They do not receive a judging folder, rather a handlebar tag to simply help the meet organizers keep track of them. These bikes are not expected to provide any documentation at all. They stand on their own, as it should be. The national program would never think of telling a host chapter what they can or cannot include as special categories beyond the four basic categories, (most unique, longest distance ridden, oldest, and period modified.)
                Thanks,
                Steve

                  Steve,
I am disappointed that the BOD won't pay the freight for you. Nobody can expect this situation to be resolved and run smooth in only one season. Hopefully the BOD will rethink their actions and you can finish your job.

I have only been in the judging for 5 years but when my husband became deputy judge for our chapter we were told that we needed to keep a list of all display bikes brought in and had to put handle bar tags on them and Kevin was the Chief Judge then so I don't think that was new. My husband as the deputy judge chooses what bikes get the national recognition awards. I'm pretty sure that Steve had nothing to do with changing that. It was the same as it always was last year at our meet except for the disclaimer which Steve also had nothing to do with.

RichO, I miss your colorful commentary!
I recall the Evergreen chapter's intent to host a national meet with the "old" judging classes, (and, "What is this? a motorcycle meet, or a GOLF OUTING?"), and ole Klink stomped his foot and put them in line with his new rules. That must have been in about 93 or so?
But the colonel was managing in a fast-growing club, and I agree that judging standards needed to be standardized to overcome a glitter contest. Had he been a softie we might have evolved half as fast.
Not that I like revolutions. Like eric implied, most of us just want our magazine and fun meets to attend, and drama and radical change are poison for a comfortable diet, IMO. .. might keep the news (gossip?) interesting, but that only feeds a small percentage of the membership, those who communicate here on the forum.

I have ignored the judging part of our hobby (with a vengeance!) until I realized the opportunity to build a judge-able bike recently. The only issue I've held with su****ion has been the Foundation, whose benefits I'm still having trouble appreciating. Oh well! See you all at the next meet, or road run!

                          What the ???????

In reply to Steve's posting. I received an e-mail from Mr. Dawdy after my posting. He stated that I was spreading misinformation and he would give me time to straighten it out before responding. I e-mailed him with the facts as I understood them. Without returning my e-mail to answer my response he made his posting. So in response; I received on or about Jan. 14th of this year an e-mail forwarded to me by Jim Moore (recently retired national board member) an e-mail from Steve Dawdy. Attached was a four page document titled, Managing An AMCA Judging Event. Paragraph two, seventh sentence states, "Motorcycles entered for "Display Only", National Recognition Awards, as well as motorcycles returning to the Winners circle are judged at NO COST". Paragraph three, sentence eight states, "New entrants are provided a judging folder with their judging form inside." Second sentence after that states, "As motorcycles are registered, a log must be kept listing each entrant by the following:", of the five listed number four is "4. Status of motorcycle (J2, J1, S, returning Winner Circle or Display Only.)". On page four, paragraph two, last sentence states, " The Chapter Deputy Judge may, at the discretion of the Chief Judge, participate in the award ceremony. The National recgonition Awards are as follows;" of the five listed number five is "Special - any other awards of the chapter's choosing". I'm glad Steve cleared the air and issued his statement that the National Judging staff doesn't wish to control our "for Display Only" machines and that the want no hand in our awarding of our chapter "vanity awards". But you can see by the information I gleaned from his publication, " Managing Your AMCA Judging Event" how I drew my conclusions. I wasn't the only one who read them in my chapter who didn't come to them the same as myself. I will also agree with Phil that Peter's system did straighten out alot of problems in our judging system but he himself caused alot of problems that overshadowed those accomplishments. As for our little Natinal meet it's seems at times to us who are really involved in making it happen that judging sometimes overshadows the reason we started it in the first place. That our regional meet didn't suffer without it. It should be more about getting together to visit with old friends, see a few vendors that we mostly view from our computer screen or on the phone. The field meet, the banquet, riding our machines, etc. I won't start on why I think National Judging seems today to be the primary reason the AMCA exists. I've always thought it was about restoration, preservation, and education. Judging is only a small part of that and should remain as such and for those who wish to subject their work to it. For me and my friends we'll take the National road runs, chapter runs, ao any sunny afternoon. Party on Garth, Doc

We had an entire thread about this childish software's THOUGHT POLICE feature, as demonstrated, above, here:
                            http://www.antiquemotorcycle.org/bbo...it!&highlight=

People even played in that thread with "Mick," "WASP," Canuck," "Limey," "Frog," and G00k," but only that last was identified, and I agree, it's only an insult when used with malice. But now, I notice that the FOUR innocent letters: S, P, I & C when appearing together within a single unrelated word are censored! C'mon, grow up!

Sarge, perhaps he mispelled the word. If, by chance, he accidentally left out the "c" and hit the "s" key twice, you get a word that, in combination with the "p" and "i", the software would delete.
