  • Rear backing plate with grease cup?

I have a late 1937-1957 style rear brake backing plate. It is the one on the right. Rivited to the inside is a grease cup to catch any grease from the hub. There is a drain tube to the outside of the backing plate. Anybody know when this was used? My '36 EL also has this featere but is a totally different backing plate.

Do you think it may have been a carryover to the very earliest '37's or perhaps a prototype?
