Titling a Bike in Maryland

I bought a 71 Triumph in PA. It has no title. I checked it stolen, and it is clean. No history of a title in PA. or in Maryland. Has anyone had any experience with just how to do this? The folks at the MVA acted like they had never dealt with an antique bike.

Often buy doing a lien sale becomes the easiest way to get a title.

More and more states are refusing to honor titles from those types of services. Since vehicles titled that way are never inspected the titles are not considered valid.

Broadway has gotten much stricter on their policies. Now you have to have the vehicle inspected by someone of authority (DMV guy or other law enforcement) in your state and that person must sign an acknowledgement. Also, photos of all four sides (ft, rr, left and right). Proof of insurance is also required. Fee is now $350.
In effect, Broadway does not want to get caught facilitating the titleing of either kit cars/bikes or ones with questionable VIN's.
In the past many people used their services and others like them to title just a frame or a set of cases. No more.

Some will not. On the Broadway website there is a list of states that won't. If you live in one of those states they will not even do business with you.

The MVA actually wanted a registration from my 1929 French Bike as well. Ugh! Try getting a title for a 82 year old bike that hasn't run in 60 years that came from a barn in France. As to my Bonneville, I think some kind of mechanic's lien or something similar may be the only way to prevent it from being a parts bike.

Not wanting to sound to dumb, but what exactly is a mechanics lien sale ?? how would that help a person title a bike that has not been titled for many years.
