Must be the same folks that are selling the 35 VLD. BTW. I think I saw that seat listed before.

I'm hoping that Michael Paquette will jump in here. I've had a couple of those seats and it looked to me like the orange color is a paint on top of the leather. In other words; it doesn't look like dyed leather. What was the process, and can any of the top seat companies like Worsham Castle, or the Saddle Shop replicate that finish.

Eric & others--That seat is an early Mesinger cushion suspention, but seems much thinner than the originals I have seen and the H-D logo makes it valuable but not the $3500.00 range. Most seat companies sprayed the dye on and that is what gives it the appearance of paint and as I do not know how Mesinger finished their seats, it may be a sprayed lacquer finish. I have a Milsco factory photo of guys doing just that. I do not know about the other suppliers, buy Yes I can make patinaed seats that come pretty close to that one---Michael

          Michael,
Is the U. S. A. on all seats? I was just wondering if that was a military model.

It is a Mesinger No. 1 air cushion saddle. They were used 1915-1921, though were not stamped USA until 1917 or 1918. So, this seat would be acceptable for 1917-1921. If it weren't stamped USA, it would be worth more (1915-16), say $1200-$1500. The guy could list it for $1000 and I am guessing it wouldn't sell. Nice seat, just an outrageous price, as evidenced by being listed at least 4 times now without any takers.

BTW, most 1915-16 HD's came with the Troxel's, (in my opinion by looking at photos, etc).

Key word in that pitch is "Japan,' in "Shipping to Japan, $58.00." I don't think many 'Merkins are hot to collect "normal use chipped" motorcycle helmets painted like a psychedelic zebra. But it does sound like something a Japanese collector of Motorcyclica Americana might be hot for. Just sayin'.

I have a few old Simpson's from the drag racing days, I would gladly sell for a fraction of that with free shipping!!! They cost between $1000 and $1400 back when Simpson did only racing helmets...... Even rarer still, a bright orange Simpson made for Snowmobile racing that has an extended inner liner to keep the wind of your neck. Priceless, or should I say worthless!
