  • Gas cap gaskets

I have a 1942 741 Indian and I am looking to replace the gaskets that go on the underside of the caps on the gas tanks and also for the oil tank all three of my caps leak.

Hi Chuck, surprised nobody responding - on mine. I cut new ones out of about 1/8 think rubber and it's a good idea to try to make sure the top's of your necks are clean and straight. That helps alot, though its harder to put them on :-) some build it up alittle then file it real flat. Git the best surface you can, best to do that stuff before paint of course. Also though it's a pretty good idea to not totally top em off with gas. Mine well still leak if I do, if your on a bumpy road. Just my experience, good luck with yours.

The gaskets are available from some vendors. I bought some from Kiwi several years ago. Greer shows them in his catalog.

        Thanks Tom and Ed
The gaskets seem to be at fault all 3 of them leak I had considered making some from the rubber material that I have in the garage I also looked the filler ports over tonight after work and everything looks good there.
        Thanks again

Chuck, we've been making both cap gaskets for over 30 years now:

          https://www.starklite.com/indian-motorcycles/pc/FELT-GAS-OIL-SPLASH-105p1057.htm

          SKU: 41821-A
Felt - Gas & Oil Tank Fill Ring

Have you ever overfilled your gas tank? And had fuel running down the outside of your tank?

This felt is designed to fit on the outside of your gas tank bung, and absorb any fuel or oil that seaps out of the caps.

          Sold Each

Tech Tip: After a day's riding, remove the felts from around your gas bungs, and hand them on your rear brake pedal to dry. This will prevent the damp felt from staining your tank over time.
The oil tank felt does not need to be removed.
On your next ride, they will be dry and ready to re-install.

          Manufactured exclusively by Starklite Cycle

          https://www.starklite.com/indian-motorcycles/pc/NEOPRENE-CORK-GAS-OIL-105p1058.htm

          SKU: 41821-B
Seal - Gas & Oil Cap Neoprene Cork

Replacement seal for your gas & oil caps.
Fits on the inner lip of the cap. If your old seal is worn, this will help rejuvenate your caps.

          Sold Each

          Manufactured by Starklite Cycle
