Based on deep thinking and a couple of 4-Locos (just kidding) it appears to be a symbolic representation of two angry Indian riders nipping at the heels of Harley-Davidson's Bar & Shield Winged logo.

Maybe Harley made a better time at a hillclimb or track race at the last minute after Indian thought they had it won. Like the time Arthur D. put Uke to the ultimate test at a hillclimb when the Indians were ahead: "Uke, you've GOT to win!"

        And he did...

Joking aside, this belt brings up an old question. When did the Harley-Davidson winged Bar & Shield logo first appear?

I've seen it by the early 1930s. Maybe around 1934 in the accessories catalog. But is it older than that? Wings are much older. In 1909 H-D used a winged hourglass. In 1910 the Bar & Shield was trademarked. But when did they (or someone else) first combine the wings with the Bar & Shield???

In "The Harley-Davidson and Indian Wars," author Allen Girdler attributed the Bar & Shield logo very early on to a Davidson sister, "Judy?" Can't remember the name. About 1906, I think.

I find the Winged Bar and Shield pin in a 1932 Accessory Catalogue. Part number 11768-30. Cost $0.50. Although it carries a 1930 number it isn't my 1930 catalogue.

I find chris's reply very funny - funny that a grown man needs to use childish vulgarity ( he owns a thesoris so what ) and name calling ( to barry and his photo ) to reply to being centered out during parking lot ribbing

Or even funnier that a grown man has homosexual fantasies when he is put down - explain why his first thought was for another grown man to engage in aeronautical intercourse with a reciprocating piece of pastry

my only thought is he is picturing it in his mind - tell my chris how close to san fran are you and how offen to you visit

and for my chilish reply - sticks and stones can brake my bones but I own a pre 1920 motorcycle and you don't
