barry when i was looking for info on a motor the guys at vmcc gave me a lot of help.i still get emails from them almost every other week.anyway they asked me if i wanted old mags. to look for my self.free just pay the postage.without reading page 78.i would say that is all the club paid for.shipping on a ton may be alot.

Well, I finally found my Winter 2006 issue, (as Barry knows my "office" area is not as well organized as his) I will quote from the minutes so the rest will not have to find theirs. from Winter 2006 page 78 and 79.
Under OLD BUSINESS: "Steve Solcombe recently purchased "about a ton" of VMCC literature which AMCA can use in the future. Board discussion. A motion was made by Rocky Halter to purchase "about a ton" of VMCC literature from Steve Slocombe for $4000 which can be sent to the U.S. for review and storage. This was seconed by Jack Gormely. Vote was in favor 15-0."

Maybe I asked too many questions at once. We now know the cost of the magazines as $4000.00. I still wonder and ask how much did the AMCA spend for transportation and storage of these magazines.

Kinda interesting that the board would purchase something from another board member? I believe this would be termed as "nepotism" in the real business world? As business is not my discipline, I will leave that to others more schooled in such issues to decide. I give Steve much credit for being one of the few who enter into dialouge with us on here, and have found his posts to be infomative at times. Like others, I do not understand the elusive, "look here for the answer, even though I know what it is because I cashed the check (cheque).Such situations do little to endear the unwashed masses to rally 'rounf the flag. If Barry's post is to be believed (and I do) I wonder if Steve made a profit from this deal? Hell mebbe I can fly over and make a few quid? Things that make you go hmmmmmmm.

This magazine thing happened before I got on the Board, but I do know that Steve Slocomb got the BOD Approval to purchase the magazines. He did not buy them to sell to the AMCA.
Steve was also the one who donated a vintage Moto-Guzzi to the Club, for use as a floating loaner bike at the various Road Runs. It worked out great at various Runs, until it broke, and the fix went beyond the volunteers who offered to work for free.
I believe the magazines were shipped from the UK to then BOD member Scot Hall, who was into the trucking biz at the time. He then trucked the mags out to the Hershey vicinity while delivering the new AMCA trailer. It was the trailer's first load, and they were able to kill two birds with one stone. I believe that trailer/magazine move was a freeby, but again, before my time.
The magazines were to be available to the membership at the Museum, when it was at Hershey, but the contract didn't hold, as the Foundation was able to secure a better site. For now, the magazines are owned by the Club. We just decided to offer them for sale to try and recoup some of the costs. If this doesn't work, and the Foundation wishes to accept them, they will most likely be donated to them.
All in all, a well meaning action. Hopefully, we don't go into the hole with it.

Dear All, as this forum is open to the world, I was trying to give our membership an inside track if trying to buy them, by being coy about the purchase price. They were bought on behalf of the Board by me, as I live in the UK and can write sterling checks. It was not an inside job and the money received left me a couple of hundred dollars out of pocket, which I was pleased to donate to the Club. The money included for shipping to Wichita as well as the price paid to the VMCC. At the time I thought we had made a good deal. I tried to avoid opening the boxes to avoid temptation, but I know there is a lot of good stuff in there. Get bidding guys!

Dear Barry, yes that's Annice the VMCC Librarian fishing your pannier out of the dumpster/skip. You can see from the leather trousers that she rode into work that day. She works in that big brick building (Allen House) with the Chief Executive and half a dozen other full time employees, doing the membership administration, merchandise sales, specialised spare parts and so on. That's their Board Room table in the Library, where they've recently received the build records of nearly all British bikes when the British Science Museum had a clearout. Their membership dues are $43 per year and they have 16,000 members and are still growing. What can we learn?
