I didn't hear anybody screaming that he devalued their stuff and was undercharging.

This thread has me a little puzzled Neil74. I have met the odd person related to the club that had no time for me and I'll tell you what.... for every person that I've encountered like that there were at least another ten people behind him that were more than great. I can't think of any other bike club that has folks that are just as obsessed with me with these old relics. I've had info offered and shared. I've had tutorials that walked me right through problems that were driving me crazy! I've also had parts overnighted to me so that I could make a weekend run. This has all come from folks in the AMCA that aren't looking to profit from me, they just want to help a fellow antique bike addict. I don't get to a lot of the meets down south but I do get a great magazine, I get this forum and I've met a lot of folks that I'm proud to call friends. Neil, maybe your just in a bit of a slump.... get out and take a ride, do some wrenchin' or open up a history book and look at the folks that started it all.. that usually brings me back around on the bad days....
    Cory,
Once again from start to finish you nail it square on the head, it's the free enterprise system and I would love one of Barrys yard longs just not ment to be at least he let's them see day light.
I actually took the(puddle jumper) 741 up and down the road today man did it feel good..........I was maybe doin a blistering 39 mph! even tinkered with the VL today

Thank you Eric. I too wish things will change. I agree totally with your perception of how the web has benefited all of us. I would like to keep it that way. but.... how do we do it unless we guard ourselves until protective tools have been developed that insure against intrusion into our personal data. One day we probably will be able to feel comfortable that such intrusion cannot occur. But alsa...That day is not yet here. Respectfully, Paps

I know what it is like to have an account hacked. My credit card was hacked several years back but definitely not via the internet. They hit my CC up for $41 thru a internet order for a girls clothing shop in NY (have never used my personal CC in NY), then when that cleared they hit it for about $7,500 at a jewelry store in Seoul, South Korea (never been to South Korea). That amount raised a flag with the CC company and they called me, asked me a few questions, cancelled my CC account and gave me a new CC number. Of course I immediately changed all my passwords on this and any other website. Again, this was not due to an internet hacker, it is just one of those things that can randomly occur in this day and age.

Unless you drop completely out of the mainstream, no credit cards, no bank accounts, no store accounts, no bank drafts, cash only transactions, you run the chance of having an account hacked at some time in your life. All you can do is take all prudent precautions and be aware of what is going on in all your financial transactions.

As far as pickers and other folks scooping up deals and selling them on Ebay or elsewhere, that has been a fact of life ever since I can recall and such "buying low and selling high" has been a fact of this and any other hobby since time began. The issue is that the rarity of the parts (primarily for antique US bikes) and the resultant value of the bikes that have those parts is at or getting to the point where the average person is priced out and there is nothing that we can really do about it. The only alternative for the average joe or a newcomer to the hobby is to take SloJo's advise and get into a model that is more readily available, i.e. a ***anese bike.

And as far as not getting any value from participation in the AMCA and on this forum, I can honestly say that I have met some of the greatest people on this earth thru my participation at local and national events and thru asking for help and advise on this forum. Without the folks on this forum I would still be floundering around.

I have to admit that for a number of years I only lurked in the background, finding the information I needed as it was asked by another member. I have been a member of the AMCA on and off between 3 and 4 times, I only signed back up last time so I could access photos and such. I am 54 years old and have been around these machines for 40 years at the least I must admit to being a bit of a hermit so much of my dismay at actively participating in the full process may very well just be me I have let my membership lapse before because of the looked down upon feeling I have received at Eustis and other events, this has become a rich mans sport and I feel no welcome offered. No offense to anyone, it is what it is, I will go back to lurking if I can and to another site if I can't. Later all, and thanks for the help it was fun Neil 74. Nov. 15 is coming up and I won't be renewing membership.
Thanks for the response, I don't feel comfortable putting my information out on the net, even if you are a member and don't use forum your AMCA information will be there if hacked I don't know anyone here well enough to hand that info out. If I'm paranoid, that is my right to state how I feel. Thanks again Neil74

            Neil74,
I suppose you already are aware that as soon as you hooked up your computer you were linked in and as much a target as anyone else. But if you didn't, you are. And no piddly-ass info on this site is going to make you any more susceptible than checking your email does. Sorry to see you go but even lurking will suck you in if it is your time. And Paps is likely on watch lists by now anyway, (you too Sludge!) so too little too late is once again the story. And hackers are merely a bump in the road of life. I choose to live it, not run from it!
            Bye Guys, We'll miss you.

Well, if it makes anyone feel better I logged out and tried to check my profile. It said I wasn't authorized to view the page. So that part is working. Funny thing though, I forgot my password and had to jump through the hoops to reset it! It doesn't really matter in my case as I've had my name at the bottom of all my posts for quite awhile now. I've chose to keep my location slightly vague and am hoping that helps. It's a big bad world out there but I'm not shutting myself out in the name of fear. I'm not saying that something ugly can't happen but after watching the news the other evening it's quite apparent that the bad guys just love to sift through garbage dumps for identity info. I'm lucky in that regard as that kind of stuff helps to light my wood stove in the winter!

"the watch list"... I know I am on watch lists. Been on them since I was 18. Fear is not an issue with me. I am not on the lists because I warn of eventual identity theft. I just don't leave doors wide open so I can wait for law enforment to arrive, after the crime takes place, to take down a report. I already know the fix they have planned for identity theft. there are other means in order to fix it than the one they have planned. I don't agree with their means to fix the problem. I won't reveal their fix here. If we do not slow the present trend in our government which is now taking place, via the polls this Tuesday, their fix will come sooner. I am on thier lists because I already know their solutions to the funding issues surrounding SSI, Medicare, Medicaid, Unemployment, and job creation. I will not reveal those here either. I've always told what I know and what I think. Never been a protester but have always been a desenter. While the communists and marxists were coming out of the closets and out of the FBI focus, I... because I do not believe as those two do... I became a focus. So what put me on such a list ? Some I've already related but much much more... I live my US Constitution and I will not compromise this law of this land. I don't consider the 2 cnd admendment the right to hunt. I hold dearly the right to free speech, whether it comes from those I agree or disagree with. I hold all of our Constitution likewise. Because I will not compromise this document, though I will compromise in business and personal life, I have always been on a list. Because I will not give an inch related to our National Sovereignty, I remain on lists. I've been raided via false warrants and still I stand firm. I won the cases also. Because I can read the next moves by the last moves which were made. Becasue I am quite satisfied with our Nation as it was and intended.... built on the blood and sacrificies of many a man and woman over our entire nations history. All gave some and some gave all to create what we have. Because I do not wish their efforts to go in vain, by standing by and watching our nation go down the tubes. Because I can live in harmony with all peoples of all nations.... as independent nations, and will not concede to a One World Government... I am on those lists. Because I will not resort to violence [ which they need us to resort to ], but make strong suggestions on how to vote [ don't choose any candidate pushed by the main stream press ] I am on those lists. Because I hold dear a Government "By The People", "Of The People", and "For The People", I am on those lists. Because I believe ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL, I am on those lists. Fear ???? HARDLY.... Common Sense....DEFINATELY...

Paps, I don't know much about lists. Maybe they exist, maybe not... I don't have proof one way or another. The one thing I am sure of, though, is that we need to vote the bums that gave bailouts to large corperations, Wall Street, and banks (DEMS and a few REPUBS), and anyone that wants to compromise our first (some REPUBS AND most DEMS) and second ammendment rights (most DEMS). I think most of these politicians start out with good intentions, but the money from the lobbyiests is too great or the pressure to tow the party line is too much that their principals are compromised. Please vote on Tuesday for the candidate that will protect your rights and not bankrupt us.

Can one of the quitters tell me why your first, last name, and member number is a threat to identity theft? And even that isn't accessible to the public. Do you think anyone cares that you are a member of the AMCA, hell most modern bikers don't know who we are let alone anyone else.

Lists ?? Ya, I'm sure I'm on a few but so what, come take my unregistered guns. Oh no I've said it now, they are on the way! Boy ain't we a little paranoid?

The lists comment was to address the statement of my ID on a list...nothing more

No one, including hackers care if we belong to the AMCA. Hackers can obtain the information we supply in our registration fields. From there they can find all of our personal information. Most hackers do not sit behind a computer searching web forums manually. They use tools such as what yahoo and google use, bots...etc... to narrow down targets of easy information. Manual selection begins when the lists have been narrowed down. After obtaining the personal information they sought out, they use it just like paper trail hackers use it. Web hacking is the same as dumpster digging, or mail theft. It is only a different means of obtaining personal information. The end results are the same. The hacked person gets screwed.

Now we're getting somewhere This is exactly what I mean, you start having a pleasant conversation an some ball less hair lip has to start slinging crap I was having a bad day, paypal screwed me out of $100.00 and wrenching on my bike had one of my 9 fused vertebrae running at a pain level of 15. So I took the advice given and went on a long ride, always seems to work.

Then I come back to read where I'm a quitter by someone who knows nothing of my life or situation, never quit or stepped back from anything in my life I put the photo up with the little smily face so everyone could recognize me, My Name is Neil Entwistle, I live in Hudson Florida. If anyone would like to get together for discussions of the good old days
