Here in Oregon, our so called governor(Democrat), wants all cars to be be fitted with GPS. The idea is that they would track your mileage driven, and use this to compute your state fuel tax. They have promised that this information would not be abused. I beleive they already have a pilot program in place in the Portland area.

For years all GM vehicles have been equipped with what is called a “black box” which continually records throttle position, braking pressure, radio volume, seat position and a long list of other information that can be retrieved after an accident by your insurance companies. This “box” is normally bolted to the frame below the center console. So a GPS wouldn't surprise me a bit.

A minor detail Steve. We can be tracked via cell phone and auto now. We can even be tracked by the cash in our wallets. Even our credit, debit cards, and drivers license are scannable with the proper equipment. The article deals with another tool they can use.
Don't look now but that digital tv you are watching is a transmitter as well as a receiver. Paps

I’m with you Eric, Not much to see here either, but Paps hit the nail on the head, it is the principle of the thing that is worrisome. I think the west has become more desensitized to all this freedom grabbing than we are here in the mid west. I guess we will just have to get used to it, but that don't mean we have to like it.

How come I never hear people from Canada complaining about such things?
