    LOL! That is funny!

I was just kidding earlier about the blue being a bit fem. I am restoring a '39EL as well. The red/black is so common, black/cream right behind it. I was kicking around the idea of the export green/black just to have something that doesn't conform to the harleycharlie club, but in 2009, the MoCo did some retro paint schemes like 1939, and one of the color options was green/black! They didn't do the blue/white, though, so maybe that is the route I should go. Carl Olson did one in maroon/cream which is classy. There weren't many options (as standard colors anyway) in '39, but Carl claims that any color from a previous year is acceptable.

wow that red bike with black tank panels is nice----is that original paint? the frame and tool box looks to be anyway. when i do my 46 i want to do it in gray and paint the bottoms of the tanks black. i remember seeing a picture of one done that way about 35-40 years ago but can't find it now. anyone know if it was available that way from factory? i want it to match my 100th anniversary Harley snap-on tool box-----and you thought i was going to comment on the pretty girl!!!!!!

Flat Happy - we all know you have a closet full of nothing but black shirts so we knew you didn't have a chance with her anyway.

Get yourself this book. It has a lot of photos of the cover bike in it.

I was greatly disappointed in some of the bikes Greg chose to feature in that book. Bikes with custom paint, white wall tires, over chromed, over polished, rubber oil lines held on with hose clamps, not correct restorations in any sense of the word. One 1938 even featured a Paughco custom carb scoop. The bad thing is people by that book and see those photos and think they are correct machines.
This is in contrast to the actual printed text of the book which was well researched and well written.

knuckcrazy - That looks spectacular. Kudos to you for not taking the more common and somewhat easier black or red route. I love those too, but the
30s were about art deco style and that brought a lot of bold new colors to the table. Congratulations. How about some additional pics?

Thanks Everyone but it is not my bike I just happened on it in Eustis over the weekend. I hope to have my 39 done about mid summer. I will post some pics on progress. This bike made my decision on the paint color, it will be the Airway blue and white. Thanks to the Gentleman and his wife for allowing me to drool over it for about an hour.

Actually the 1939 Airway Blue 11601-34* and White 11648-X are not correct 1936 colors. In 1936 the blue and white was Venetian Blue 11628-35* and Croydon Cream 11616-X. With the new judging standards about correct colors you better pay close attention.

Restoration of an early '36EL (36EL1006); Note the "notched" cam cover:

In some instances, this might be considered a hijack of the thread, but I think we covered pretty well what the 1939 Airway Blue looks like.
