Here is an interesting book about a cross country motorcycle ride that you can read on your computer. Maybe the folks doing the Cannonball in Sept can learn some useful tips.

I have so far been able to read two different issues of Motorcycle illustrated, the oldest from 1910 with a load of information and I have found the complete "The Horseless Age" all issues from 1899 where I found an article on the Herring tandem motorcycle with an illustration (a real good one), still I aint half way trough.
This link will keep me busy for a while I think.

here is another good story, its not about 1919 cross country rides but it must have been a similar experience. These guys rode 3 harley lightweights from coast to coast in less than 2 weeks in 1960. What a ride!
