The picture of the prototype 1948 is a good example of why you need to be careful when using factory pictures as a reference for restoration.
Note.the painted rear stand catch and the stand catch screw?

I don't think the stand catch is painted. I think it is cad plated. Correct, I believe.

          JWL.

You could be correct I just had a look at the same picture in Palmers book and he says note, the rear catch was cad plated.

I did not know that they came cad plated. If it was cad plated on this proto type built in may 1947 would they not have been fitted to 1947 models built after May as well?

Chris can you post a high resolution picture of the catch so we can study it in detail?

It's hard to tell from the photos, but the rear fender would almost have to be repop, considering the position of the tail lamp. The shift lever is repop, too. The blurb does state that the machine was built for road runs, maybe that explains the use of fake parts.

That picture is at 600 DPI. Copy it and blow it up.

I can’t see if it is painted or cad when I blow up the picture but the catch screw looks to be painted.

Both the screw and the catch are cad.

                    47 on Ebay

Hey Guys - Real interesting conversation going on about Peter's Bike - He would have already jumped in by now if he were reading this - Ha Ha - All of you knew Peter and his attention to detail - You are correct, he never judged this bike - He built it to ride and be dependable on Road Runs - but because of who he was and his knowledge of Antique Motorcycles, you are looking at one of the nicest KnuckleHeads around - Calvin Burnett took all of the photos and we have High Res shots if any one wants a copy - Someone from Germany is inquiring about buying the bike and asking to state the Cash Asking Price. If anyone has looked lately, it currently is at 30K - Getting close to the asking Price - Good eyes Chris! -

I remember Peter telling me about the day he brought out his Indian for judging. He said it looked like every judge on the field was crawling over his bike.
