  • New Guy Checking In

Another new guy checking in. I'm in central Alabama and just attended my first AMCA event at the Barber Vintage Festival. Met vldave and many other folks from the Confederate Chapter and other chapters. They all made my wife and I feel right at home. Great folks! The event went off like clock work despite the on and off rain. We had a great time and look forward to attending other events.

              Thanks Guys

Thanks for the welcome guys. If you have not made it down to the Barber Vintage Festival, you need to put it on your to do list. They do a great job with this event, and it gets better every year. The museum alone is worth the trip.

I come from a racing background. Everything from amateur MX and dirt track to AMA Pro Battle of the Twins and 250cc Grand Prix road racing. I lived in Orlando back then, and Daytona was my home track. Got pretty banged up in the mid eighties, but I'd still like to throw a leg over a boardtrack style racer.

I have a Harley JD racer project. It's a mixed bag of parts. I didn't gather the parts, but it will work for my purpose. Hope to get it close to what a privateer would have entered in the endurance roadraces of the 20s. Got some things to change to get there. I know there are folks here with true factory racers and I wouldn't claim my project is anything close to them.

Welcome David. I've seen your J on the Yahoo JD site. Love your bike and what you've done with it. By the way; I too am an escapee from the city beautiful. I lived in Orlando for many years and it broke my heart to see it go from the nicest city in Florida to one of the top ten dung holes in America.

                  Thanks

                  Thanks Eric,

I got a lot of good feedback on the JD at the Barber show.

I first visited Orlando after high school. This was just after the Disney opening and it was a nice little city. I was offered a job there 4 years later and I was surprised how it had already begun to change. Later I spent 26 years as an Orlando Police Officer and got to see the decline up close and personal.

When I retired, we beat feet to somewhere else. Not long after we left, an officer I worked with at the airport was gunned down by a thug, when he stopped at an bank atm a little too late a night. My daughter still goes to college there. It's gotten very scary.

Welcome aboard Dave! I'd be eager to see pics of that J of yours. A period type racer would be a cool project!

                      Thanks Cory,

The JD is still a little muddy from the Barber Show. I'll get it cleaned up and get some better shots to post.

It's my mother's fault Rob, she wouldn't let me play in the mud when I was little!
