  • Daytona 1948

Scott Parker's post on the hillclimb thread got me to searching........ here's a couple clips from Daytona. It's home video and a little on the eratic side but stick with it, there's a few very recognizeable folks captured on film! Pay attention folks.......there could be a quiz at the end.....

    48 Daytona

    Hey Cory,,
Great find on that 48 Daytona film. I've been searching for years trying to see any film footage for the 1948 200 miler and always came up short.. I have Paul Goldsmiths 1948 WRTT that he ran in 48 on the beach as # 157. Sadly, I didn't notice his # after viewing both clips.. But, I'll try to clear it up and slow it down and maybe get lucky!! Appreciate you listing this--Thanks, BPK!!!

Glad ya liked it Brian! I'll have to watch it again to see if I can get a glimpse of ol' #157. What other years was your machine raced?

        Daytona

Good question! Really do not know anymore, as Paul Goldsmith went from # 157 to #3 and exactly when I do not know. Paul won Daytona on a KR in 1953 as #3. Also, keep your eyes open for Jimmy Chann, as I have his Daytona Manx Norton that he raced Daytona with in 1952, and finished 11th.. Not sure of his race# at this point--again Thanks, keep that reel rollin-BPK!!!

You've probably already seen this stuff. It's the most info I could find on Paul Goldsmith... http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/hall...page.asp?id=26 It shows him on the KR #3 that he won the '53 Daytona race on. This is a clip with the # 3 winner... http://www.gazotube.com/0laMqXuO41E.html It looks like it got a little congested in the corners....... Here's the Hall of Fame info on Jimmy.... http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/hall...page.asp?id=36

Last night the lights came on and I remembered that I had some Daytona race footage here at home. I dug it out and found that it was from '47. I did a search on '48 footage and found this..... http://www.disasterclothing.com/ I had high hopes but the number your looking for doesn't seem to appear.

Wasn't he back on a Harley? I thought he only ran a Manx in 1952? As,he always ran Harleys so the story was told, other than in 52! You must have all the records with your years of research? BPK!!

I just checked my program and you are correct, back on a Milwaukee Vibrator, probably why he wiped out. Maybe he should have stuck with the Norton which had vastly superior braking and handling.
