  • Davenport, 2009

The year has passed so fast and it's Davenport time again. Like a lot of you I live for this meet. It's 2,600 miles one way for me that's 5,200 miles total. Cost $3,200 for me and Jeff to have parts in Davenport last year, I have to sell a lot of my parts just to be there. They changed the row letters this year, I was in row P and now I am in row Z, spaces 7,8, and 9. Same row just new letters. Just bought a pile of Indian parts that has not seen the light in many years. Will be fun to sell it. I am looking for any Corbin parts. I got in to Corbins when Peter Heintz gave me his parts for them. He charged me for the shipping and gave me all the parts, that was the kind of man he was. He will be missed just like Bob McClean. These two guy helped make this club. He wanted me to be a Corbin man and it's take a few years but I am getting there. Always looking for 1915 Harley parts. I need original paint fenders.

Terry- send me an email and I will reply with some photos for you. My wifes family plot is in a Cemetary in New Britain, CT where the Corbin Factory was. I wonder if the large Monument I photograped is the Corbin Family who owned the Corbin Manufacturing Company?? John P.chief348@juno.com

I guess for the first time in many years I will not be making it this year. I had held out hope until today. Wife is from New Zealand, and her Mama is going to be 80 September 15th, and for some reason she says we have to use family resources to travel there instead of me going to Davenport, go figger See ya next year!

What part of NZ are you going to be in ?
I'm about 2 hours drive North of Wellington and 6 hours drive South of Auckland.
If you can fit it in you are more than welcome and I can put you in touch with locals if I know where you are going to be.
Lets know if I can help. You might be surprised a trip down under might yield more treasures than a trip to Davenport.

          Tommo,
I will be in Pukekohe, in the Bombays south of Auckie. Do you know the Franklin Racetrack? I believe there are old bike shows on occasion there.I have been coming to your beautiful country for years. I know where Palmerston North is and have been there on several occasions. I should arrive on the 14th and remain for 2 weeks or so. I will be living in New Zealand come 2011, so I would very much like to meet you and am most appreciative of your kind offer. It would be good to get away from the in-laws for an overnight adventure. Hopefully I will see you soon.

                  Hi.
                  Terry.
I have not read this thread before. When you say Peter Heintz will be missed. Has he passed on?
                  Regards Steve

Yes, Peter Heintz passed in Feb. this year. Look at the AMAC Obituraries thread. And yes he will be missed by many in the world. He helped put alot of bikes back on the road with a good speedometer on them.

                      That is sad news.
I only met him the one time. It was about 4 years ago and I had all my frame components and one of my frames set up in my stall at the Davenport swap.
A golf buggy comes trundling along with a lady in a long white skirt and this tallish guy with a white hat, and stops in front of my stall.
The guy comes over and says my name is Peter Heintz and I would like to shake your hand. I am the retired senior judge for the AMCA and I would like to thank you for what you are doing. You are making some fine quality products. Then he got back on his buggy and off they went.
I didn't know who he was at the time because I was new to the AMCA.
He had no other agenda than to praise me and encourage me on.
                      A gentle, nice guy.

The boards sure are slow today. Everybody must be in Davenport. I wish I was.
Shoppin' all day with a break now and then at the Rusty Nail http://rustynailqca.com/.
Dinner at The Machine Shed http://www.machineshed.com/restaurants/davenport.asp .
Followed by a good nights sleep to get up and repeat it the next day.
Saturday a trip to The National motorcycle Museum in Anamosa http://www.nationalmcmuseum.org/
Sometimes I venture to Mount Pleasant, IA on Saturday for The Steam Threshers Reunion. I have found antique motorcycle parts at their swap meet and from the farmers who load trailers full of old stuff and sell it on the roadside outside the meet. http://www.oldthreshers.org/
