Okay, got to look through the pics a little better today. What are they doing in these shots? Looks more like making boiler tubes than motorcycle parts. Thought maybe something to do with frames but some of the tubing is way to big and heavy wall for that.

Brian, Those are multiple spindle screw machines. The tubes contain the "bar length" of hex stock material, and they feed into the machine as they make nuts and bolts.

some production machine shops still had these when I took my apprenticeship. They are actually still hard to beat the efficiency with cnc equipment nowadays......they take forever to set up, and once set, you want to run like a million pieces.

Oh.....they are a mess too, cuz they run a stream of sulferized oil on the cutting tools...you can see the floor is covered with "oil dry"

Thanks Tom, I would have never guessed that one. Makes sense why there are so many of them also, there's alot of nuts on motorcycles. Not counting the ones that ride them.

Those are (were) some cool images. Pretty weird way to sell them
on ebaY, singled out. One might think value in a group,
but then they part'm out, big time...

Thanks for the info TF; I was wondering about those particular scenes, too.
In one of the shots I saw in the auctions, I was amazed by the number of oil cups.
I started counting them; a guy could probably have made a shift
by filling oil cups on a deck like that.

we need manufacturing like that again, and it can be done, too
