  • The Non Winner Circle

    Dear all,

This thread is being inaugurated for all those that have a motorcycle that never went through an AMCA judgement and wish to post their pictures here.

Direct attachment or Photobucket can be used, but please do not remove the pictures since the links won't work anymore.

Essential description as make, model and year is almost mandatory. Information about the owner is optional. Soft facts about the motorcycle's own history is highly welcomed!

As a result of the chat, the aim of this thread is to offer to those that never let their motorcycle judged, to let the judges and/or experienced members in the community to "assess remotely" and give advice about parts that are not correct.

    I hope the project succeeds!

    Kind regards to all.

    Chris.

that is exactly why we started the 6 point rule. before you could not show this bike at all, now we all get to enjoy that beautiful bike.

why did they refuse that bike, does it have dics brakes, stero, cruise control or what??? it looks good to me, and I was the one that started that class so we could see the history of American Motorcycling

I have no arguement with that.
You might want to consider a class for motorcycles that are not restored or original. Something like preserved.

I'm collecting parts to build my '51FL as a period modified. I still have all the stuff to restore it but I want to have some fun with it before I do that. My thought process about period modified is, the bike should be modified with genuine parts from that era. The parts can be earlier or a bit later or even parts off an Indian or a British bike but NOT from a Shovelhead or a Honda, and not stuff right out of J&P's Custom Catalog. I'm sure this can be a dangerous catagory for an AMCA judge because it's somewhat subjective and opinion based. Obviously, common sense, a sense of humor, and careful observation of period photographs is the rule here. Chris Haynes' website has some great pictures of true period modified bikes.

I don't know how all chapters handle their Period Modified bikes. At Dixon they are not judged by AMCA Judges but are given People Choice awards.

Can't get more politikal than that!

An unjudgeable catagory detracts from the legitimate points system.

                      Just an outsider's opinion.

I'll have to drag it out and shoot some. It was a two owner bike I found. 20 some odd thousand original miles on it. Sadly it had received an metal flake blue paint job. I repainted the sheetmetal thinking as long as I was gonna take a 6 point hit it might as well be with original colors. I replaced the parts that got chromed with good used original finish parts.

I assume the picture on the left is the way it currently looks. I think that is a great looking bike and I'll bet it's fun to ride.

That's a really nice looking bike Chris.

Needed to paint my '65 FLH (heavily striped by previous owner). Going to use original OEM paint. Although I am using a replacement set of OEM sheet metal that was previously painted and keeping the originals. I'll probably wind up in the same boat.
