Finish on Generator Pulley

Working on my Autolite generator and wondered what the finish on the drive pulley should be. Black paint? cad? phosphate?. For '52 Chief, BTW.

Sorry mate.
Just checked Jerry H's resto guide, and it didn't show the pulley itself, just the genny.
I've seen both black and ? Cad.
My current pulley is plain alloy (repro).
