  • mystery motorcycle movie

Olle from Sweden has a question in the current magazine inquring about a motorcycle racing movie from the '70's starring John Carradine, and featuring AMCA members and their bikes. Race was from St. Louis to California?

Does this ring a bell with anybody? I thought I had seen all of the old cycle movies but I'm drawing a total blank on this one.

Wow, never even heard of it. Is the movie set in the 70's or representing earlier days?

The movie is set in the 1920's. Its a cool little movie. Unfortunately I haven't seen it available yet from any Movie Tape/DVD companies.

It stars 'DAVID' Carradine from the series 'Kung Fu'. John Carridine is David's father a Star in his own right.

I have a set of the original Movie display cards. My wife taped the movie for me back in the eighties. Its getting worn out. Hope they bring it out on DVD someday. Hrdly

Thanks for the info guys. Were any of you the "AMCA Members" who made the final cut of the film. That would be neat, something for your grandkids to get a kick out of.

              "Fast Charlie"

At the Dixon meet a couple of years ago a guy was selling that and tons of other m/c movies. The riding shots were filmed in the Sierra foothills up around the Fiddle town/ Volcano area. Bud Egans built the stunt machines for it.

Sidetracking this thread to give a heads-up to anyone who might be interested.

There was a 1976 episode of "The Waltons" entilted "The Great Motorcycle Race" ... JimBob strips down Ike Godsey's old Harley and enters it in a crosscountry cycle race.

Cable channel Hallmark (HLMRK) is currently running the 1976 shows, this one should be on any day. (On Dish TV it's channel 185.) If any of you have the ability to scan ahead in your TV listings, would you see if it's scheduled in the immediate future?

Haven't seen this episode in 10 or 12 years but from what I remember there were some stripped down Sport Scouts or WR Harleys in the race. Kind of interesting, I bet Bud Ekins was involved in this.

That was Bud Ekins, not Egans.
Bud and Kenny "Von Dutch" Howard built most all of the bikes used in the movie in Buds PRIVATE Van Nuys, CA shop. You get to see a full screen close up of Bud's mug. He was one of the "Bad Guy's" sent out to ambush the Moonbeam Special. Bud also did a lot of the stunts in the movie. Dutch did the booze.

Here is where ya can buy a copy.

Yes, Both Bud and I worked on the episode. Of course they were Bud's bikes.

I see they also have "CODE TWO" This is the 1953 movie about the LAPD Motor officers School. Lotsa great footage of Knuck's and Pans roaring over hill and dale.

The principal bikes in this movie are kinda period correct for immediately post WWI. But if ya look closely you will see most of the other bikes in the race are H-D or Indian 45's.
