  • Anyone have info on this old Italian bike?

Anyone have any info on this little bike? It was only made between 1955 and 1960. Only has 413 miles on it. Appears to be a 4 stroke single. I believe it may have some connection to MotoLeggaro? 70cc, 3 mustang horses on the tank and fenders.

    Pictures were added below, sorry.

Could you post larger pictures? Very difficult to see anything in the ones you have posted now.

Looks very similar to a Maserati Lusso, but I will have to do a little research.

I think the miles were easy, its the sitting around for 50 years that took its toll on it. I still see exotica in it. Maybe Im a little deranged?

Is that "MDS" on the side case of the motor? Cool little bike! How do you know it was made between '55-'60?

I think that is a Moto Parilla

I have a very grainy black and white photo of 4 models of Moto Parilla. This one looks like their MDS 70cc Super Dart. The paint scheme on the tank is the same, but the logo is a bit different. Tool box, headlight, forks, motor, fenders, seat all match .

One of the Moto Parilla logos is a greyhound, it looks a lot like the greyhound bus logo. In the photo I have the logo on that fuel tank is just below the forward arch and had the letters MDS, I think covered by the larger patch of white on your fuel tank. Above the lettering is a leaping animal in silhouette. The head is more upright than the leaping greyhound logo, more horse like, and it is centered on the D of the MDS. There may be second horses head to the rear, but I can't tell for sure.

I believe this copy of Moto Parilla info came to me from Barber Vintage

Here is a reference to it Not being built by Parilla, but built by MDS. Sold by Cosmopolitan Motors. Seems to be in 1962 .

Yeah, MDS is all over it, especially the motor. Im not completely sure its a 4 stroke, but Im just guessing it is because of the oil feed line to the top of the head like on british bikes. I have not touched the bike yet.

Moto Parilla? Thats an interesting comment. I did have a 250cc Parilla Tourist with a rare un numbered race motor, but it was nothing like this little bike. I believe I did have someone on another forum say that they thought Cosmo sold MDS at one time, along with Capriolo and Parilla. Maybe its just another Italian make that he sold at the time.

Just looked at your brochure William, good score! I just happen to have a booklet from Cosmo (somewhere in my garage). Now Im going to have to go find it. Thanks!

I found my Cosmo brochure, but its from 1965 or so, so it doesnt have any MDS in it. It did have Parilla and Capriolo and Benelli in it though. I found another book from 1965 and it gives the stats for an MDS Super Dart 70cc as follows: 4 stroke single, 70cc, 5 hp @ 6500 rpm (wow), 3 speed, top speed 53 mph (yeah right), 196 mpg, $289, sold by Cosmopolitan motors. Couldnt have found it without the help from you fellas, thanks!

Louis. I found a reference in a motorcycle encyclopedia that showed it was only made for 5 years, from 1955-1960.
