  • any update on Wheels Through Time...?

Anyone know what's currently going on with Dale and the museum?

He was supposed to be moving about this time of year, I think.

Is the new location going to be substantially the same as the Maggie Valley set-up?

Hasn't been anything new on his blog recently.

I was up there 3 weeks ago for a few days, and Dale told me that although he was closing on Nov. 30 he still has not made an absolute decision about moving. He said although he could close the museum and still make a good living in the shop, the bottom line was sharing the history. And if the town and state made that financially impossible for him, he would have no choice but move. Google the smoky mountain news and see what kind of promotion is being given to that outdated piece of crap Ghost Town moneybag tourist trap. It's all about the money. I'll be talking to him next week, so maybe I'll know a bit more.

He was supposed to close in November. No information on move date or location.

The Museum IS CLOSED untill Spring, during which time Dale is trying to work things out with the town of Maggie Valley in an attempt to remain there.

Motorhead 1 --I understand your concern for Dale's museum, as I do living in the state, but please do not refer to Ghost Town as a piece of crap. My great Uncle built that place and many. many great memories are held by folks all over the country about their visits there. For many years, it was the only attraction in that area other than Cherokee which truly was a tourist trap until Harrod's Casino came in. I wish Dale could work out his differences with the town which is what this is all about because I value his friendship and the truly awesome exibits he has there , but it is not productive to trash one attraction over another--Michael Paquette--6671

No intention to offend. It is the current condition of the place as a whole.

I guess every town has it's sordid underbelly but I have always enjoyed Maggie Valley and have great memories of my visits there. I really wish Dale would figure out some way to keep his place there.

I was recently in the US, I visited Maggie Valley, and Dales place.....which was nice.

                But............

Coming over from the Gatlinburg/Pidgen Forge direction.....

I used to go there when younger and it was a nice place to get away and have a decent couple of days/long weekend.

Not anymore...........wall to wall traps, wall to wall people and cars.......and...amusment rides........my god....

Not to mention junk food places....... then all the shows....geezzz

People sure know how to ruin a nice area.

I would not go back to that area money trap on a bet...........

When you visit the museum and look at all the bikes, parts and pieces you get a true perspective on what it would take to move all that. MY GOD, that would be tough!!!

Maggie Valley is, except for the hillside "mansions" that have sprung up the last 10 years or so, much like it was when I first started, about 30 years ago, going to the old annual 4th of July car show held in a field there. As the event grew, it outgrew the muddy field and has relocated to nearby Tennessee. My point is that I never saw anything being done to promote the event and to find a better place to hold it so it could be retained, though I am certain it brought tourist dollars into the town.

And while you will see NC Hwy Dept roadsigns pointing out Ghost Town, I see nothing similar for the Wheels Through Time museum. Also, the last time I stopped at the NC welcome center on I-26 (North of Spartanburg) I could not find any handouts for the museum. I would think those sorts of omissions would gall the curator of any world-class museum.

I hope Dale can work it out. He will be sorely missed. Like the Jodi Mitchell song says, "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone".

About as tough as it was to move it all there from Illinois.
I was headed there and had the address. Even while driving slowly and looking carefully for the sign I passed it. When I mentioned that to Dale he told me that the city wouldn't allow him to put up a more visible sign.

I vote to pull Wayne's membership. The guy is destructive to the club and to fellow members that are in good standing. He has started a new ebay name similar to Worsham (Warsham-Castle) just to irratate a legetimate business. He teeters on the edge of slander. Again, I say get him out of here NOW!

PS... I don't have a vested interest in Worsham. I have never met Mike, but I have used him for one seat and it was first class, second to none!

eBay Item # 200280800335. In The item description the seller states " is the leather that old, wish i knew." I'll fill him in on the history as he seems to have forgotten. He picked that seat up from me the first of November. H-D never made a non-vented seat with 2 inch thick padding---Michael--6671

There is some real interesting things about Wayne going on in the Vendors rated section of Georges. He doesn't sound like the type to do business with.

Perhaps they should bring in a Federal Mediator.

You And Wayne Are Both Getting Carried Away. Are You Going To Object To Him Trying To Recoup The Money He Paid You For Restoring The Seats Every Time He Tries To Sell One On Ebay? You Do Such A Good Job He Can Pass Them Off As Original. That Would Make A Pretty Good Commercial.
